STAFF INTERVIEW

SCENTNATIONS Inc.
Store Manager, SHOLAYERED Nishiazabu Store
UMI MIYANOLength of service: 3 years 3 months / Joined: June 2022

Turning "passion" into a career. Becoming someone who can move people's hearts through scent.

Please tell us about your reasons for joining the company.
A.

I became interested in this industry after an experience involving fragrances and cosmetics through a school project in high school. I was looking for a store where I could create my own original fragrance, and that's when I found SHOLAYERED, which piqued my interest and led me to apply.

What were your initial impressions or experiences when you joined the company?
A.

As it was my first time working, I felt anxious and nervous, but I was relieved to find that everyone on the team was bright and fun. That left a strong impression on me.

What do you feel is the company's appeal after joining?
A.

I feel that this is a company where you can seize opportunities through hard work, regardless of age or gender. My efforts are properly evaluated, which boosts my motivation.

Also, the SHOLAYERED brand itself offers a gentle fragrance lineup that caters to Japanese preferences, usable by people of all ages and genders, which is a great appeal.

What experiences have helped you pursue your dreams and career?
A.

When I became store manager at 23, I was anxious, but the environment where my colleagues and seniors fully supported me was a great help. Having colleagues who work hard together is a huge source of strength.

Are there any rewarding aspects other than customer service?
A.

The presence of repeat customers and those who specifically request me. When they tell me, "I came to see you again," I truly feel that this job is worthwhile.

When did you feel a sense of personal growth?
A.

When I first joined, there were so many products, and I worried if I could handle customers as well as my seniors. But now, my junior colleagues tell me, "Ms. Miyano, your customer service is an inspiration," and I truly feel I've grown.

What kind of customer service do you provide to encourage visits?
A.

I strive to suggest fragrances that genuinely suit the customer and that I truly want them to use, without a business-like demeanor. I aim for customer service that helps them envision and imagine their future using the fragrance.

What initiatives do you take to improve customer satisfaction?
A.

While maintaining an appropriate distance, I value customer service that helps customers relax and enjoy themselves, not just by explaining products, but also by engaging in everyday conversation to encourage them to open up.

What are your strengths as a fragrance advisor?
A.

Even with quiet customers, I can gradually build a rapport until they feel comfortable discussing their needs. I believe my strength lies in building trust and then suggesting a fragrance that is perfect for them.

Do you have any tasks you're not good at?
A.

I'm not very good at tasks that don't have a clear right answer, like changing displays. I'm better at executing assigned missions.

About your sales performance (e.g., highest sales ever)
A.

During the gift-giving season, I was able to encourage multiple purchases, achieving my highest sales record ever.

What kind of fragrance advisor do you aspire to be in the future?
A.

I want to be someone customers seek out, no matter which store I'm transferred to. As a store manager, I want to be a leader who can help my junior colleagues confidently serve customers and boost the morale of the entire team.

What do you want to try next?
A.

I'd like to be involved in projects that enhance the brand's value, such as store-exclusive products or collaboration events.
