A short journey to create fragrance
I think that making perfume is like going on a little journey. What kind of scenery do you want to paint, what kind of air do you want to feel? Each scent is a guidepost. The time spent handcrafting your own fragrance is a little special, and a very luxurious moment.
First, we start by thinking about the theme of the fragrance. What kind of world do we want to step into? For example, a "floral" scent that makes you feel like you're strolling through an elegant flower garden, a "woody" scent that gives off a sense of warmth in tranquility, or a "spicy" scent that evokes a mysterious exotic land? This first question gives us a sense of excitement, like pointing out the destination of a trip on a map.
Next, gather the ingredients for your fragrance. Every time you pick up an essential oil, listen to the story it tells you. For example, the refreshing scent of bergamot will remind you of the fresh breeze under a blue sky. A gentle sniff of sandalwood will envelop your heart in the tranquility and warmth of a deep forest. At this moment, the scent goes from being just an ingredient to being connected to your heart.
When deciding on the composition of a fragrance, consider the perfume trio: top note, middle note, and base note. The top note is the beginning of the journey. It is a light scent that determines the first impression. The next middle note is the main story that colors the journey. And finally, the base note is the part that leaves you enjoying the lingering aftertaste of the story. How you combine these three gives your perfume its unique personality.
When you actually start blending, it's very quiet and requires concentration. The process of adding oil one drop at a time and adjusting the scent may feel similar to painting a picture on a canvas with paint. After adding ethanol and carrier oil, mix well and wait for the scents to blend.
The most important thing in perfume making is the time it takes for the fragrance to "maturity". When the fragrance is just mixed, it is not yet fully developed. By leaving it in a cool, dark place for 1-2 weeks, the ingredients will blend together and the fragrance will gain depth. This waiting time is a joy as you look forward to the finished product, but it is also a process that requires a little patience.
When you transfer the fragrance into a bottle, your very own fragrance is complete. The moment you wear it, you feel as if you have reached the end of your journey or that a new adventure is about to begin.
Making perfume is not just "making something." It is like a journey where you face your own sensibilities and give shape to the seasons, memories, and scenery in your heart through scent. The scent you create over time will surely have a special meaning and will become a gentle magic that envelops you.
