Hello, I'm Masaru Ishizaka, a fragrance producer.
Today I'd like to introduce you to the Layered Fragrance philosophy of simplicity and minimalism.
One of SHOLAYERED's most important concepts is simplicity and minimalism.
Being born and raised in Japan, it seems natural that my designs embody minimalism.
Japan has four seasons and rich, expressive nature.
Japan's food culture has traditionally been centered around agriculture and is full of the bounty of nature, and this culture is linked to a sense of gratitude towards nature that has been passed down through generations.
This idea of respecting and coexisting with nature is a traditional Japanese aesthetic value that is always present in our products.
When I design something, I think of rivers and mountains and contemplate the beauty of nature.
I realised that the design did not need to stand out, but should bring out the beauty of nature itself.
Like the mountains set against a backdrop of autumn leaves, beauty is serene and delicate, and we want the things we create to seamlessly coexist with such beautiful scenery.
This will result in a simple design.
The same can be said about scent production.
Rather than striving for intricately crafted scents, the priority is to highlight the beautiful scents that already exist in nature.
Our values emphasize minimalism and respect for natural beauty.
However, without a strong underlying commitment, minimalism can easily become simply inorganic.
For example, in product design, a simple product can look crude if it is out of balance.
To avoid this, we pay close attention to the balance of the vertical and horizontal silhouette.
When it comes to scents, I try to keep them simple yet intense.
The Lemon Peel scent enhances sophistication by adding the fresh scent of lemon zest.
Our Sugar Lychee scent has the power to recreate the pleasant feeling of déjà vu and the excitement of a new encounter.
With these things in mind, we create products that embody minimalism while being conscious of balance and strength.
