How to forget an unforgettable scent

Memories associated with a scent can sometimes be intense and penetrate deep into the heart. Every time we smell a certain scent, memories of someone or a special moment from the past come back to us vividly, and it can feel as if time is rewinding. Although scents are invisible, they are closely connected to memories and emotions. That is why it is never easy to forget an "unforgettable scent." However, there is a way to face the scent little by little and come to terms with it in your heart.

First, start by considering what the scent means to you. What memories does the scent evoke? Who is it with? What emotions does it evoke? Because scents are strongly linked to special people, places, and events, it is important to sort out those relationships and deepen your understanding of the past. By stepping back and looking back, you may find that the emotions that have been trapped by the scent are lightened, even if only a little.

Another way to do this is to try incorporating new scents into your life. Changing the scent you wear can change your mood and perspective, and help direct your mind in a new direction. For example, if you used to be familiar with floral scents, try a completely different genre of perfume, such as a woody or citrus scent. The new scent may associate with new memories, and you may gradually become less attached to the old scent.

It is also effective to adopt a new behavior or activity the moment you remember the scent. For example, when you smell the scent, give yourself a new stimulus, such as listening to your favorite music, burning a calming aroma, or moving your body. By doing so, every time a past memory is resurrected, a new sensation will be added, and the shadow of the old memory will gradually fade away.

However, there may be times when a scent can't help but stir your heart. At those times, it's important not to blame yourself or try to force yourself to forget, but to accept the memories you had with the scent as part of yourself. It may not be easy to "forget," but over time your heart will gradually become more organized, and the weight of the scent will ease.

That "unforgettable scent" must have been that important to you. While that scent is connected to your past self, it also helps shape your future self through new scents and experiences. After a journey of scents and memories, there will come a day when a gentle change will come over your heart.
