Perfume pyramid

When you go to the perfume section of a variety store, have you ever seen a triangle shape on the packaging or on a POP advertisement?
That is the perfume pyramid.

Perfumers and other people who work with scents call the olfactory pyramid, which literally translates to the pyramid of fragrance.

This is a visualization of the scent image that changes over time.
Scent is invisible and is perceived differently by each individual.
It is like a common language that allows us to communicate this information in an easy-to-understand way.

The scents of LAYERED FRAGRANCE are a type of perfume called single note, which does not have a pyramid.

From above,
Top note: The first scent, lasts for about 10 minutes after application

Middle note: The second scent, lasts for about 10 minutes to an hour

Last note (base note): The final scent, lingers for 1 hour or more

This duration is only a guideline.
This will vary greatly depending on the amount you apply, the temperature, humidity, your own body temperature, and other conditions.

Many people mistake the image written on this pyramid for a list of ingredients.
It's surprising that even a fragrance reporter thought it was an ingredient list.

Globally, the perfume pyramid has different items that are commonly listed for men and women.

For women, light top notes such as citrus or fruity are recommended.
The middle notes often include soft floral notes such as freesia, lily and rose.

On the other hand, for men, the top notes are lavender, coriander, and sage, while the middle notes are lavender and geranium.
Herbal scents are often distributed.

In Japan, there are pyramids available that are adapted from the women's pyramid for men.
If we were to simply import fragrances aimed at men from overseas, they would tend to be too strong for Japanese people.

These adapted Japanese fragrances for men have then been imported back overseas, where they have been met with a positive response.
This is thought to be largely due to the global trend towards unisex clothing.

We have introduced the pyramid, one of the techniques for expressing fragrance.
It's difficult to describe the scent in my own words, but it's a very fun and deep world.
Please give it a try.
